Tina Turner was 46 in 1985 when she met Erwin Bach at a London airport. She was rebuilding her career after 18 years of marriage to Ike Turner. She had no money. Her body still carried the injuries. He was 30, a German music executive at EMI. He came to drive her to her hotel.

She fell in love within weeks. He moved with her to a quiet house outside Zürich, Switzerland.

For 28 years they lived together without marrying. Tina called Switzerland the only place that ever felt safe.

They married on July 17, 2013. She was 73. He was 57.

Three months later, Tina had a stroke. Then intestinal cancer. Then her kidneys began to fail.

By 2017 she was on dialysis. Doctors offered no transplant. Erwin volunteered.
