Queen Turner didn’t just dance on Soul Train… she lived a life that sounds straight out of a movie.
From growing up in a small North Carolina town and being raised in the DMV, to running away at just 14 years old to work with Isaac Hayes in Memphis, Queen’s journey is nothing short of unbelievable. Inspired by her father working three jobs to support the family and fueled by the energy of James Brown, she chased a dream that eventually led her to California and into the world of Soul Train.
Unlike most dancers, Queen never had to audition. Isaac Hayes personally pushed her toward Don Cornelius, and once she stepped on set, her unique blend of Go-Go, Memphis groove, and raw charisma made her impossible to ignore.
In this episode, Queen reflects on her unforgettable years dancing on Soul Train from 1973–1979, sharing wild behind-the-scenes stories, legendary dance partners, and iconic encounters with stars like Ike & Tina Turner that ended in ways nobody expected. But her story doesn’t stop there.
From touring internationally across Japan, Australia, and Canada, to getting married at 16 and eventually having 10 husbands, Queen opens up about love, life, fame, and why she believes marriage isn’t for everyone.
This is more than a conversation. It’s a piece of culture, history, and legacy told by a woman who truly lived it all.
