"January 18th, 1988. Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro. 180,000 people.

At 9:47 PM, every light in the stadium went out. Stage lights. Arena lights. Production screens. Everything. Complete darkness.

The stage manager had the protocol ready. Battery-powered PA. Emergency procedures. Standard practice.

Tina Turner raised one hand.

Then she walked to the edge of the stage. Sat down. Her feet hanging over the front. And she spoke three words in Portuguese — a language she didn't speak — that she had asked her translator to teach her that morning for no reason she could explain.

Eu estou aqui.

I am here.

What happened next, in the dark, for fourteen minutes, is what the stage manager called the most inadequate entry she ever wrote in a show report.

""Power failure, duration 14 minutes, resolved without incident.""

It was not an incident.
