"October 12th, 2000. Cologne, Germany. 6:47 AM.

The arena held 22,000 people. That night, it would be full. The final show of the Twenty Four Seven World Tour.

That morning, it held one.

Tina Turner had come in through the side entrance before anyone arrived. She walked to the center of the stage. She looked at 22,000 empty seats. She moved through the stage slowly — as if running her hands along the surface of something she was about to let go of.

Then she sang. For eleven minutes. Alone.

The overnight security guard watched from the back of the upper bowl. He didn't move closer. He understood that moving closer would have been wrong.

He never told anyone. Until now.
