Taylor Dayne spoke exclusively with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner in New York City on June 11, sharing a wildly funny story about her longtime collaborator Diane Warren. Dayne recalled Warren routinely showing up to their studio sessions with a bird perched on her shoulder, saying "Animals always came first with Diane — animals first and humans later. And therapy." The two powerhouses famously collaborated on "Love Will Lead You Back" — which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — and "I'll Be Your Shelter," which peaked at No. 4. At the ceremony, Dayne performed a moving tribute to inductees Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, singing Tina Turner's iconic "We Don't Need Another Hero," which they co-wrote. The 2026 inductee class also included Taylor Swift, Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. Dayne also gave an emotional health update, calling herself a "diligent warrior" after surviving colon cancer — saying she dropped to 98 pounds during treatment but fought back with a fierce new sense of purpose.
