In 1983, Capitol Records president Don Zimmermann looked at A&R man John Carter and called Tina Turner what he called her. Carter walked back into that office, got down on his knees, and refused to get up until Zimmermann picked up the phone. Zimmermann made the call — but added: don't count on us to promote it. Tina Turner was given two weeks to record Private Dancer. It sold twelve million copies and won three Grammys. Don Zimmermann died in 2020. John Carter died in 2011. The Library of Congress preserved the album in 2019.
